Dear Parents:

We want to share some important dates with you for the last month of school.  It seems impossible that we are at the end of the school year.  It has been a special joy to know each of the children and a privilege to be a part of their growth and development this year.

On Friday, May 9^th, we will be having an all school picnic.  The picnic will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Lowenstein Park, Shelter 1 (next to the playground and butterfly garden).  We ask you to attend the picnic with your child in order to help with the supervision necessary in a large park.  Brothers and sisters are welcomed to join us.  Please bring your own sack lunches and drinks.  All children and parents will meet at the park.  We will not have either session of preschool on this day.  In case of rain, regular classes will be held. 

The last day of regular classes is Tuesday May 20th.  On Wednesday, May 21^st, and Thursday, May 22^nd, the children will be hosting the Spring Open House.  Each child, with a parent or parents will come to school on ONE of those days at a time you may choose.  Plan to be with your child approximately one hour.  Your child will demonstrate four different, pre-selected exercises one from each of the four major areas of the classroom.  An effort is made to have the child show you the most difficult work they can do in each area.  However, sometimes the child wishes to show a “favorite” exercise and his wishes will be respected.  The children are always very eager to show the practical life skills they have mastered and sensorial, math, and language concepts they have been working on.

An Open House sign-up sheet will be posted in the hall on Wednesday, May 7^th.  If you do not bring your child to school, you may send a note or telephone the school.  You may choose a one hour slot on either Wednesday or Thursday.  Wednesday times will be from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM (over at 7 PM).  Thursday times will be from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM (over at 12:00 noon). 

Due to the lack of space, we ask that you not bring siblings to the Open House.   

In the month of May, we will continue to review the letter names and sounds of the alphabet.  Our special color will be pink, the numeral will be nine, and the shape will be the quatrefoil.  We will be listening and singing, “Peace Like A River” with the children, and our art print will be “Maternal Kiss” by Mary Cassatt.  Our Fruit of the Spirit is Faithfulness.
