Military Ministry
Sometimes, in the frenzy of everyday activities, we forget those whose days are never ordinary, whose very lives are at risk. They are the men and women of our armed forces fighting overseas, and they include members of our own church family. Regardless of your politics, we must be united and strong in our loving support of the troops. ~ Pastor Jim Preisig
The church mails monthly care packages to our deployed members and others serving our country. You may contribute items in the collection box located in the narthex and/or contribute monetarily to help defray the cost of postage.
Items needed: beef jerky, ramen noodles, pre-packaged cookies, crackers, nuts, candy, gum, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, Advil or Tylenol, cold medicine, Hot Hands handwarmers, books, Bibles and most cherishered are notes of encouragement and support.
I am reminded of family, Lee’s Summit, home, friends, but most importantly the freedom’s that far too many Americans take for granted each day, not really understanding what they have until they see what is going on over here. Even though I’ll have 35 years of active and reserve service to our country in July of this year I am still very proud and honored to serve my God and country in this Global War on Terrorism and just pray to God that the young souls that are lost over here are not in vain.
Serving with pride,
LTC Chuck Blaschke, III
PFC Eric Wagner

Thank You Letters
The following letters come from military members who receive care packages from LSUMC due to your generous donations:
If I need something out of the (care package) box I use it and put the remaining items in a common area for others. Please relay my appreciation for the package and all the items within. The LS Methodist Church has taken great care of me by providing items on a regular basis. I will always have pleasant memories of LS and the church. Melissa and I enjoyed the friendships we build and time we both spent giving to the programs. Thank you for all the many prayers and thoughts and know that the soldiers here are not only praying for each other but we are praying for you and your families. Take care and be safe.

On behalf of 4th Platoon Delta Company, I would like to thank you for your support in sending care packages to us while we were deployed to Iraq. They really helped out alot with things we needed like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.; it also helped with moral support in knowing that there are people out there that think about us over there. I greatly appreciate what you and your church has done for us and I wish there were more people like you in the world.
Sincerely,
Spc William Atkinson
I would personally like to thank you for all your kindness and to the entire congregation there at Lee Summit United Methodist Church. Thanks to all the volunteers that put in so many hours and personal resources to give us over here a little bit of Christmas cheer. I received a care package from you folks during the holidays. It actually arrived just days before Christmas! I've been too busy to write, as you can imagine. The job over here keeps us busy and there never seems to be an end. Our unit is based out of Whiteman Air Force Base and we are called Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 114. I have augmented this unit along with about 45 others from around the country to form this fine group of American Sailors with lots of experience. I'm proud to serve with each one of them! It is a pleasure to finally say hello and to let you know that the gifts were very much appreciated and shared with my watch team, section 2. My very own GM3 Jacob and OS2 Patterson are from Lee's Summit! They are outstanding individuals and I'm lucky to have them in my section. I can honestly say that I've personally received about 30 to 40 letters and packages from folks in the Lee's Summit area. Somehow, I intend to write and express my gratitude to each one of you. I wish I had enough time to do it all in one week but It's busy here and I thought I'd write to you and let you know in this email that I am very grateful for all your support. PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE WITH THOSE WHO HAVE ALSO WRITTEN AND SENT ALONG PRAYERS. The prayers have been answered and all is well. I haven't forgotten you and I intend to respond to all. There has been so much support for me and my guys sent from members of your congregation! I look forward to visiting Lee's Summit this next autumn, when I'll be in the area for a drill weekend with MIUWU 114. Thanks again for your generosity and love.
Very Sincerely,
Charles Michel
