Nursery FAQs

Where is the nursery located?
The nursery is located in the Education Annex of the church, Room 16.

When is childcare available? Childcare is available during all regular congregational worship services, Sunday School, and WOW (Wired On Wednesdays). Upon request, childcare is also available for many congregational and special events.

Would childcare be available if I attend a church-sponsored event off site? Childcare is available upon request. A special registration form and a notarized medical release form must be completed.

Must I be a member of LSUMC before using the nursery? Your child is always welcome in the nursery while you are attending church functions. Visitors and members alike are always invited to visit our nursery.

What are the age restrictions/requirements of children attending the nursery? During Saturday and Sunday worship services, children three years and younger may attend the nursery provided a Power Pack (Sunday School) or Children' s Worship is not available. LSUMC provides Power Pack classes (Sunday School)  at 9:15 and 10:40-Noon for all children two years and older (by Aug. 1).

What items should I bring/not bring to the nursery with my child? Please provide the nursery with disposable diapers and bottles (if necessary) and any other items needed to care for your child. Make sure personal items are labeled clearly. Toys brought from home are strongly discouraged. Security items are welcome, however.

What about snacks? Simple snacks (vanilla wafers, goldfish, graham crackers, etc.) may be offered. Personal snacks for children are discouraged. PLEASE INFORM THE STAFF OF ANY ALLERGIES YOUR CHILD MAY HAVE!

What is the check-in procedure? If this is your child's first visit, we will ask that you complete a registration form. The safety and security of your child is of primary concern to us. You will be given an identification tag that matches one placed on your child's back. The tag must be presented to the childcare staff when your child is picked up. This guarantees that no one can pick up your child except you or whoever you choose. As a courtesy to our caregivers, please pick up your child immediately following the event or service attending.

What if my child cries as I am leaving? For many children, this is their first experience away from mom and dad. We suggest that you say good-bye to your child quickly with a hug and a kiss and let them know you will be back soon. It is normal for little ones to cry when a parent leaves. If your child cries for a prolonged amount of time (15 minutes), you will be notified. Vibrating pagers are available upon request.

Who will be caring for my child? The nursery staff consists of adults and high school teens who are paid employees. Parent and teen volunteers may also be present. Nursery staff employees willingly submit to a background check upon employment and are safe-sanctuary trained. Every effort is made to have at least two staff members present during scheduled events.

Can I stay in the nursery with my child? Absolutely! If your child attends the nursery on a regular basis, you will be encouraged to volunteer in the nursery during church services.

Who can I talk to if I have more questions about childcare? Contact Childcare Coordinator Staci Allen at 816-524-4966.
