United Methodist Women
UMW is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Our local UMW unit offers women of all ages to be a part of a Circle or Fellowship Group. These groups provide opportunities to meet new friends, work on mission projects and share a common desire to serve. Our special mission emphasis is on women, children and youth in the U.S. and in over 50 countries around the world.
Local, district and conference programs offer opportunities for fellowship and learning through Bible and mission studies, seasonal celebrations and retreats. Programs help us keep better informed, pray for each other, develop leadership skills and learn more about the local, national and global issues.
As a member of UMW, you may become involved in some of these activities:
? Fundraising for mission projects
? Attending retreats, conference events, Legislative events or the School of Christian Missions
? Attending unit meetings and becoming active in a circle or fellowship group
? Participating in UMW Reading Program with its selected books as well as reading Response Magazine
? Sewing layettes for babies at Truman Medical Center East-Lakewood or adopt-a-resident at Christmas
? Help serve condolence meals to our bereaved members and friends
? Support global mission projects through our Pledge to Mission
All women are welcome and invited to join. You do not have to be a member of LSUMC to do so.
Read more about each circle/fellowship to find one that suits your preferences. You are invited to attend at any time.
