Jim McCoy's Faith Story

I am blessed more than any man should be. I didn’t grow up in church and don’t remember much about my early childhood. My first encounter with a church was at a Southern Baptist tent revival when I was 16 years old. My father laughed at me. Why? Because it changed me. It made me realize that there was a life other than cheating, drinking, playing cards and chasing women.

I wasn’t saved until April of 1980 some 11 years later, and ashamed to say that I didn’t really accept Jesus into my heart until about four years ago. I don’t have any stories about drugs, alcohol, depression or divorce. In fact, I have had a great life: married 33 years, three great kids and three grandkids.

My story is about being loved by Jesus Christ. Christ died and returned to life so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living (Romans 14:9). Jesus has shown me through his love how to love others and how to spread the word of his love through my ability to communicate with others. I own a tow business and get to meet people daily that are sometimes at the end of their rope. I listen to their problems - some I don’t want to hear and more times than not, the problems are self-inflicted; some are really sad. Most people want to hear about the love of God and we usually find common ground to discuss how God has and will make a huge difference in our lives if we ask and allow him to. I have actually learned a lot from people that I initially thought needed my help.

I was inspired to put a custom painting (scripture) on my motorcycle because a lot of friends that I ride with have noticed a change in my life. It gives me an opportunity to witness to them as well as others. As a Christian, I believe that it is our responsibility to spread the word of Jesus Christ to everyone we encounter by our actions and our words. Although sometimes to do at first, it gets easier every time you run across someone that loves Jesus just as you do.

You would be surprised how many big, scary Harley dudes love God just as we do.
